Europe between the Lines
For several years Dara has systematically documented the internal
EU Border Checkpoints. He has captured those desolate outposts, those
marks on the European homeland, where the traveller were often abruptly
detained and inspected. Boundaries become more than political borders
in McGrath's art: they become places of disruption and loneliness, of
shadow and repose. A kind of Europe speaks publicly through these images,
one that is slowly disintegrating and becoming more homogenised. These
images stimulate thoughts of the connection between image and idea, between
one site and the next ; becoming eventually a series of related images
that embody notions of exclusion and movement.
