Boundaries II- Statement
This series of images continue my long-term investigation and exploration of European Borderlands.
With the emphasis now on the Eastern European region because of the accession of these states to the Schenegen Treaty in late 2007, which allows free movement and peoples between countries who share a common land borderland.
The work continues to document these transitional, ambiguous and once contested spaces with an additional emphasis now on the peripheral areas of these places.
The images seek to evoke the connection between European borders and ones own ‘local borders’: ideas of inclusion and exclusion, identity within ones own community and the relationship within the wider sphere of the European context.
